I have loved performing for a long time. As a fourth grader, I attended a summer camp dedicated to teaching kids magic, juggling, and puppetry. The camp director once remarked that "A magician is merely an actor playing the role of a magician." I had found out, quite suddenly and by accident, that I was an actor...and I reveled in it. I took theatre classes and acted all throughout school. My passion guided me toward St. Olaf College, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre, and it pressed me further to The New School for Drama in New York where I received a piece of paper denoting me a Master of the Fine Art of Acting.
Of course, I didn't stay in the classroom. Before gaining my MFA, I already had acted on stages around Minneapolis from The Guthrie to weekday afternoons in rented sanctuaries. While living in New York, (aside from getting married), I worked on a number of plays, and I was able to develop and hone my craft. (See the "Acting" page for a detailed resume). I now have a broad range of experience acting in all kinds of forms: union and non-union, student films and big-budget Hollywood movies, theatre and screen, Shakespeare and new plays, commercials and devised work.
Of course, I didn't stay away from the classroom. After my wife and I had our son, the opportunity arose for us to move to the Phoenix area to teach at the college level. We jumped at the chance. Since arriving four years ago, I've taught acting, intro to theatre, cinema and production, (see my CV above) and have directed students in department mainstage productions..
